Pineapples Have Many Health Benefits
Enhances tissue healing
"Pineapple is the only food that contains bromelain, an enzyme that heals your skin and tissues," Zumpano says. Bromelain appears to produce substances that fight pain and swelling.
It might also help your skin heal after surgery or injury if you consume bromelain from pineapple.
Inflammation-fighting
"Inflammation helps the body fight off illnesses," Zumpano says, "but too much inflammation, particularly over a long period, can lead to cancer." Bromelain has anti-inflammatory properties that can help fight inflammation and may inhibit the growth of certain cancers.
Of course, eating pineapple isn’t a cancer-free guarantee. “But eating lots of colorful fruits and vegetables, including pineapple, is a good way to help prevent cancer and other health conditions,” Zumpano says.
Digestive aid
A pineapple dessert is also a great choice for digestion: Pineapples contain a significant amount of fiber. It's also believed to contain bromelain, which aids digestion, though there's not enough scientific evidence to say for sure.
Pain relief for arthritis
Bromelain found in pineapples may provide pain relief for people with osteoarthritis. "If you have achy joints due to osteoarthritis, try adding pineapple to your diet," Zumpano says. "But don't stop taking your medications or change your dosage without talking to your doctor first."
Weight loss is boosted
Most weight loss experts recommend a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. However, pineapple might be your diet's BFF (best fruit friend) because its enzymes may help you lose weight.
